College Introduction

In response to the growing demand for healthcare and speech-language-hearing professionals in an aging society, the University has progressively expanded its academic and research capacities since establishing the Department of Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology in 2012. In 2015, the Graduate Institute of Long-Term Care was founded to strengthen research and development in long-term care policy and practice. Subsequently, the Institute of Geriatric Welfare Technology & Science was established in 2019 to promote the application of technology in geriatric care settings.

As these departments and graduate institutes continued to mature, the University further expanded advanced professional training by launching the Master’s Program in the Department of Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology and the In-Service Master’s Program of the Graduate Institute of Long-Term Care in 2020. In 2021, the programs successfully passed the Ministry of Education’s departmental evaluation, demonstrating broad recognition of the University’s educational achievements and academic quality. Moreover, in 2025, the undergraduate enrollment quota for the Department of Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology was officially increased, reflecting the strong societal demand for professionals in this field.

On August 1, 2025, the institution was officially renamed MacKay Medical University and established the College of Health and Wellness, integrating the teaching and research resources of the Department of Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology, the Graduate Institute of Long-Term Care, and the Institute of Geriatric Welfare Technology & Science. The College is dedicated to interdisciplinary integration, the incorporation of clinical practice, and innovation in healthcare, with the mission of cultivating healthcare professionals equipped with humanistic values, professional competence, interdisciplinary collaboration, and innovative research capabilities, thereby advancing public health and social well-being.
